2024 CALL FOR WORKSHOPS

The 2024 YLC Planning Committee is seeking 50-minute workshop proposals to further educate and inform our student participants about the following topics. Topics have been divided into 4 tracks. Your workshop proposal may address one or multiple topics under a single track:

 

1. Career Readiness

 

• Careers and Career Research

• Job Seeking Skills

• Resumes & Interviews

• Professionalism

• Communication (Verbal/Non-Verbal)

• Entrepreneurship

 

2. College Access

 

• Connecting College and Career Success

• Equity and Opportunity

• Financial Aid and Literacy

• Postsecondary Access, Readiness, and Success

 

3. Community Engagement and Advocacy

 

• Political Process (Local, State, National)

• Community Volunteerism (Importance and Opportunities)

• Action to Bring About Change

• Community Identity

 

4. Personal Wellbeing

 

• Mental Health (Substance Abuse, Suicide)

• Healthy Relationships (Consent vs. Coercion)

• Myths and Facts About Domestic and Dating Violence

• Online Safety and Bullying

During our selection process, the YLC Planning Committee, in coordination with the Metropolitan Education Commission’s Youth Advisory Council, will prioritize workshops that are participatory and focus on supporting the voices and lived experiences of their youth participants. Some examples of participatory workshops are role-playing/acting out scenarios, large and small group discussions, and opportunities for artistic and creative expression.

 

If you are interested in conducting a 50-minute workshop at the 31st Annual Youth Leadership Conference, please complete the Workshop Presenter Registration form below. We ask that you please submit your workshop proposal by January 30, 2024. We will inform you of our decision by February 16, 2024.
